Found the cause of the problem! 1. some files and folders do have their permissions set to 740 -> this cannot be added via '+' from the web interface to the playlist, but they can be accessed from the slimserver.
2. others do have 644 -> no problems here. -> the share with the music files is mounted with valid credentials and can be accessed from the slimserver (all music files can be played) -> I suspect there is a bug in the web interface when it comes to add songs to the playlist via the '+' link.
