My understanding is that the ubuntu repo is well out-of-date and may or may not work properly. The best way to get a working install is to take it from Slim Devices own repo by adding the appropriate line to your sources file. Take a look here in the wiki http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?DebianPackage which describes this. You can choose between the latest official release (6.5.4 I think) or the soon to be final release of the next major upgrade 7.0. I can report that I am using the latter on Gutsy with no issues and have found it to be completely stable.
