You've missed the point, Pat. Here's the problem as clearly as I can
state it:

1 - cron runs the bashpodder.shell script every hour to download
subscribed podcasts, because different podcasts become available at
various times during the day.

2 - there's also a once-a-day cron cleanup job that deletes podcasts
older than 10 days: find /mnt/jukebox/podcast/2008/*.* -mtime +10 -exec
rm {} \;

3 - At the end of the day when I want to LISTEN to the new podcasts,
the only way to do it is to Browse Music Folder to the podcast
directory, because SC has not indexed the new files, nor been made
aware of any newly deleted files.

4 - using Browse Music Folder, SC freezes for a minute or so when I
browse to that folder - then it displays 1 file in the folder and
freezes again before letting me scroll through other files in the
folder.

5 - So, I am trying to automate the indexing of that folder in order to
eliminate the annoying delay when I go to listen.

6 - the CLI command "musicfolder" (+ correct folder parameters),
whether launched manually or from cron, isn't updating the database.
The delay is still there when I go to listen.

The only clue I have is this, that even when I manually browse the
folder and endure the delay, the new podcast files do not show up in
the list of New Music - WHY NOT? It works with any file I MANUALLY add
and Browse to.

I also suspect the deleted files are throwing SC for a loop. Maybe
I'll suspend the delete job for a few days and see if that helps.
Maybe running the cleanup once a month will limit the delay issue to
that 1 day a month.

note - Running rescan isn't feasible, because it will wipe out anything
playing on the 5 SBs around the house. I'd rather endure the delay than
blow away somebody's carefully constructed playlist or interrupt their
listening session in any way.

Thanks for playing, any suggestions are most welcome.
