Another option you could try is serial console.  The motherboard has a
serial port, so all you would need is a USB->Serial adapter and null
modem cable for your laptop.

You will want to use the "Edgy and newer" upstart method, and complete
the grub config section.

Unfortunately, that motherboard (like most desktop boards) doesn't
support bios over serial redirection.
