Hi Andy, If you can afford to spend some money (any money), the path with the most certain and expedient outcome would be for you to buy a more powerful machine with an operating system that you can comfortably work with from the start. If you decide to give linux a try, be careful not to do anything that would preclude you going back to what you have now, however sluggish it may be. At least it works, even if at times unacceptably.
