(You should be able to see correct character on file name as well.) Tag scanning probably not working well. (Only mp3 may have issue.) If you use NETGEAR version of scanner (i.e. optimized version of scanner), and you specify language to Japanese in SC config screen, then scanner read mp3-tag as SJIS and convert to internal format (utf8).
