Dear all,

I'm encountering great difficulties in installing the new squeezecenter
(7.0.1 or 7.2.1) on my super stable SLES 9.0 server.

Currently I'm running (again, uff) SlimServer 6.5.4 without any
problems.

The difficulties are like this:

After installing with rpm -Uvh the are errors like thiswhen starting
squeezecenter:

> Log4perl: Seems like no initialization happened. Forgot to call
init()?
> Use of uninitialized value in join or string at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.3/File/Spec/Unix.pm line 73.
> Use of uninitialized value in pattern match (m//) at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Slim/Utils/Prefs.pm line 275.
> /usr/sbin/mysqld: ERROR: unknown variable 'innodb_fast_shutdown=1'

If I comment the line in my.tt the next error shows up:

> /usr/sbin/mysqld: ERROR: unknown variable
'default-collation=utf8_general_ci'

and so on:

> /usr/sbin/mysqld: Character set 'utf8' is not a compiled character
set and is not specified in the
'/usr/share/squeezecenter/MySQL/share/mysql/charsets/Index' file

The version of mysql is
> /usr/sbin/mysqld Ver 4.0.18 for suse-linux on i686 (Source
distribution)

The version of perl is
> This is perl, v5.8.3 built for i586-linux-thread-multi

Immediately after starting squeezecenter it shows a process entry like
this:

> /usr/bin/perl -w /usr/libexec/squeezecenter-server --daemon
--prefsdir=/var/lib/squeezecenter/prefs --logdir=/var/log/squeezecenter
--cachedir=/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache --charset=utf8

but only for a few seconds.

server.log looks like this:

> [08-10-28 12:51:50.1692] Slim::Utils::MySQLHelper::createSystemTables
(433) FATAL: Couldn't connect to database: [Can't connect to local MySQL
server through socket
'/var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/squeezecenter-mysql.sock' (2)]

I just encountered that SLES 9.0 may not be supported, only openSUSE
10.3 and openSUSE 11.0 seems to be.

Anyone has any hints?

Regards, Ronald
