Yesterday, I downloaded and installed Squeezeplay under Ubuntu 10.04. First, There is no apparent result of having installed it, other than Synaptic package manager confirming the fact.
Second, there is no howto, manual entry, or instruction, nor anything useful on the Wikki, as to how to actually -use- it. From this thread, I find that that one has to find the executable in an obscure path, cope with loading libraries (even though maybe there is a shell script) and possibly even run it as root. The closest I came to any success with this was a full-screen (as in entire desktop) display inviting me to choose language. Scrolling caused the text to be superimposed on itself and illegible. Although the sometimes rough-edges of the Squeezebox and its software can be irritating, I don't mind a certain level of geekiness requirement (I wouldn't be running Linux if I did!) but this "effort" (can't have been much) should never have been released to the public. Cries of "beta" don't impress. Beta software should at least work! This is nowhere near important enough to attempt compilation myself. >From what I see so far, I would predict a hair-tearing, time consuming failure anyway. Sorry for the rant.
