I'm building FreeBSD 8.2 + perl 5.12.4 versions of SBS on a semi-regular basis while trying to iron out all the problems with 7.6.
Poke around in: www.xenopsyche.com/ip/squeezeboxserver and see if there's a version there you can use. There's also a perl 5.10 build in there, and one built for amd64, but they're both a little out-of-date. Not sure which one you need. I'm running r33001 on my "production" server, which has all of the showstoppers squished for a vanilla-ish installation.
