alac was the old bin responsible for apple lossles transcoding in later
version it is faad .

I have done some very few test with faad a bunch of alac files they
worked, however they where not created by iTunes . And some people
report problesm with hirez alac .

There seems to always be some issue with these reverse engineered hacks
to make apple stuff runs outside of OSX/win apple stuff ?

You may go the easy route to just transcode the stuff to flac for the
squeezeboxes, one of these days maybe apple sees the ligth and start to
support flac (the year 2050 or something) .

A not soo good sign is that logitech had apple lossles natively running
on the Touch but later turned it off to be supported by server
transcoding, because it was buggy on the device itself.
It may be soo that native alac is an option in the beta fw but i have
not tried that so I don't really know the status rigth now.

However most people on OSX or win seems to play their alac files just
fine ?
