That's odd, since I had the opposite problem. When I upgraded from 10.04LTS to 12.04.1LTS the I ran into issues with Perl and the version of LMS I was running (7.6.2 I believe)which prevented LMS from running at all. I upgraded to the latest version of LMS (7.7.2) and it is now running fine for me. The Perl version installed is 5.14.2. Have you taken a look at the scanner log file to see if there's any details there?
