I think that you could add it if you want to a /lib/firmware directory.


I downloaded the source for the driver from
http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php?sn=501 . The
file is for RT2870USB(RT2870/RT2770) and the rt2870.bin file is located
in the src directory if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure if my solution is the "proper" one, I could not find a
firmware-ralink.tcz file for Tiny Core so I used brute force.

Did you check the output from the dmesg command? If not, boot the Pi
without the USB card and check the output from the dmesg command after
you have plugged in the device. If the firmware is missing you will most
likely have an error message.
