sorry kalittle and thanks for the feedback, Unmounting wasn't really necessary anyway, just a reboot would have done the job.
I should have mentioned you can't unmount a partition when you are accessing it, so a simple "cd" to return to your home directory before the "u1" would have done it. I'll update the instructions here in case someone refereneces this thread in the future.
