Attempting to use the arrow keys in alsamixer kept "overshooting" one
way or the other. But a hybrid approach--using the web interface to set
it to zero then "sudo alsactl store" at the command line did the trick,
*thank you*!

Now if I could just figure out why it HATES 192kHz material. Any attempt
to play it makes the squeezelite CPU jump to 25%, there's no audio
output and attempting to restart squeezelite via the web interface
doesn't kill the original process but starts a second one. The only way
to kill the original process is via the command line. 96kHz material
plays without a hitch. I haven't yet tried 176.4. I remember when the
Touch first came out it had an issue with 96kHz material at maximum FLAC
compression, maybe this is related since I do tend to try to make the
files as small as possible.

I personally use -r 96000 on my own setup because the receiver in the
room in question won't do any processing on anything higher, but I was
trying to set up this Pi for a friend. The simplest answer would
probably be to just add on a HiFiBerry Digi+, but, because It's Always
Something, my friend's receiver doesn't like anything higher than 48kHz
via optical S/PDIF.

First world problems for sure, and I'm only complaining here in case
this rings some bell and there's an easy fix. I suspect HDMI users are a
minority and I'm really not asking that any serious time be spent
looking into this.

Complete log from squeezelite start to freeze:
