burn and image, and put a file called 'netusb' on the boot partition. Although I have to say, I just tested this and saw an error message that the mount failed to setup a loop device. I thought this was fixed in the new mount.... but obviously not. add max_loop=100 to the command line for now, that will make the kernel create all of the loop devices at boot time, rather than dynamically.
