There is no transcoding for either player - the problem is in squeezelite command line options and/or audio subsystem. To identify the problem - first enable output logging on squeezelite (i.e. -d output=info ) - the initial output will say the audio sample rates supported by the audio device. Ideally repeat on both good and bad pi to see the difference.
