There's a typo in the help for setting an alternate MAC address for squeezelite. The term "overwrite" is used -- I'm sure that what was meant was "override". Clearly this config doesn't actually overwrite a system MAC address, which would make the option a little scarier than it actually is. I know I did a double-take. (I use this feature, to give my clients predictable mappings in the LMS.)
