Im running various pCP versions on various different Pis. The highest spec one is a Pi4 with a Khadas Tone Board (v1) both in decent hi spec cases which happen to match really well. The Khadas Tone Board is a USB DAC. I have another - a Pi3 - using a lower grade USB DAC. My advice would be try a USB DAC. They start at a couple of £ and go up to hundreds of £ so its easy to upgrade. In my view easier than a HAT - largely due to the fact that most require different cases.
