Since this fails and -r 44100,48000 works it seems to indicat that your LMS resampling is broken or disabled. What is your LMS version ? Direct stream is for URL to play direct to Squeezelite - only possible if it is a compaitbl stream if LMS has to resample - then it will not play direct.
