  The scan completed pretty fast (Total Time: 00:01:27 ).  The music
  never skipped a beat. 
  After the scan finished, the buffers were indeed smaller, and started
  climbing back up, which seems to confirm what you said about the
  operating system freeing memory as it is required by a process.
