Interesting. I have an inkjet hooked to a Windows 2000 Server with Service for Macintosh (SFM) running. W2K Server will only emulate a PostScript I device. From Classic I use the Laserwriter driver and a Laserwriter NT PPD. Works fine. But I have not been able to print from X even though Print Center sees the advertised printer. The other problem is the Postscript 1 support in Win2K does not support color. So I must print Black only from the Macs. My workaround has been to save as PDF to a Netwrok share on the 2000 machine and then print from Acrobat on the Windows machine kind of a PITA. However since the machines are on a KVM I only have to click a switch to have the Windows desktop on the monitor.

Ghostscript is a unix program that converts postscript or pdf documents into just about any printer code on the market. The idea is you use OS X's printcenter to generate postscript code of your document then you filter the postscript code through ghostscript to generate the code needed for your printer. I use this technique to print to a Postscript level 1 printer. (OS X only generates level 2 compatible postscript code) Jim Derry wrote "Balthisar's Guide ot Non-PostScript, network Printing for Macintosh OS X"available at : http://homepage.mac.com/balthisar/HPNetworkInkjet.sit. Be sure to review the discussion at http://discussions.info.apple.com for additional clues for other printers and updates. I have not been able to use this on OS X server running on a 7500. But it appears to be a problem with printcenter on that machine not ghostscriptl . -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
