ASIC= application specific intergated circuit- i.e. a custom ic ( for a 
specific function(s)) versus on industry standard off-the-shelf
ic (general purpose}.
Actually, Apple designs and uses many custom ASICs- They combine the 
functions of many gp ic's
which reduces mfg. costs, saves board space and increases reliability.
