Dan,
very much true. In fact, after installing OS X 10.1.2, the automatic 
software update kicked in and installed the security updater--that went 
smoothly. But trying to install the "Installer Update 1.0" is where I 
got stuck--the system wouldn't let me choose a hard drive to do the 
installation.

If anyone else is having similar problems, please let me know!!!
