Hi Antonio,

I just did a complete system rebuild this weekend, and I now have an S900
running Jaguar with a very similar setup to yours:

Supermac S900
Sonnet Crescendo G3 400 w/1 meg 2:1 cache
528 megs FPM non-EDO ram, interleaved
Radeon 7000 Mac edition
ACARD AHARD 66 IDE controller
IBM Deskstar 80 gig IDE drive (OS X)
Quantum Fireball 2 gig SCSI drive (OS 9)
Macally Firewire card
Belkin USB card

One key difference in our setups is the IDE card. I'm not sure about how
the Sonnet works, but the ACARD masquerades its IDE buses as SCSI buses,
which from what I understand, helps a lot with getting Mac OS X working. I
also have the entire 80 gig drive dedicated to one OS X partition. If you
don't mind spending another $50, try getting the ACARD... chances are that
the ATA 66 vs ATA 133 isn't going to make a whole lot of difference in a
system with such a slow PCI bus and system bus, and maybe it would just
work a little better.

Which slot do you have the IDE card in? If you haven't already, try
putting it in the top slot. I have mine in the top slot, with the Radeon
in the second slot, then a USB card and a Firewire card in the two slots
after that.

Have you tried finding any new firmware to update the Sonnet IDE card
with? The Radeon 7000 also had a ROM update in the last couple of months,
have you tried installing that in OS 9?

I did experience a LONG black screen when I first installed Jaguar with
the Radeon - but not 16 hours long. I have a feeling it has something to
do with the point at which the Radeon drivers are loaded during startup...
then again, maybe not.

How about swapping out the ram entirely for new, matched ram? Also, what
type of ram do you have? Though EDO and FPM dimms are both supposed to
work, FPM (non-EDO) DIMMs are recommended.

These are fairly generic recommendations, but even though you already have
OS 9 working, chance are OS X will require a little more TLC.

Here's to hoping you get it working!

Peter
