"UNIX" has supported serial printing for years. The printing architecture OS X uses is Apple's own technology, not related to standard (lpd) UNIX printing. The version of CUPS thet use is modified to integrate with the OS X printing subsytem. >Serial port drivers *do* exist for Unix, so undoubtedly something could >be bodged together /dev contains tty.modem and tty.printer...those are >tty device drivers for those two ports, I expect. There is also >cu.modem and cu.printer there too. Everything in /dev on OS X is dynamically created by the kernel, they are not special files created with a MAKEDEV script like on Linux. To add serial printing support a kernel module would need to be written/modified. I am making a prediction (pure conjecture) that support for beige G3's will be dropped with the release of 10.3. -- Charles Dostale [EMAIL PROTECTED] System Administrator, Silver Oaks Communications http://www.silveroaks.com 824 17th Street, Moline IL USA 61265 309-797-9898 -- Unsupported OS X is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Unsupported OS X list info <http://lowendmac.com/lists/unsupported.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive <http://www.mail-archive.com/unsupportedosx%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Mac?
