I have been trying to install OS X 10.1 on my Mac - the specs of which are:

7300 w/ original 604e 200 MHz
288 MB RAM
2 GB HD
Memory is interleaved
Realtek 8139 C/D 10/100 PCI NIC installed in slot C1
OS 9.2.2 installed already and working OK.

Using XPF, everything seems to go just fine, until I get to the end of the OS X install. Then the installer says "Can't write file" (which file, I don't know), then suggests I try to re-install. When the Mac reboots, I get an icon that looks like a folder that is cut in half. If I reboot the Mac again and hold down the "Option" key, it boots just fine into OS 9. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a fix for this? Should I de-interleave my memory (I'd rather not do this if I can help it)? Should I remove the PCI NIC during install? Do I need to reformat my hard drive?

I am more of a PC UNIX person, and have come over to Macs recently. I am more used to the PC *NIX builds, where it may have problems initially, but at least it will boot so you can fix it afterwards. Not a complaint about Apple... I understand they do things this way to keep the "Idiots" who don't know, and don't care to know, how their computers really work... it's just an observation.

Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated, as I'd just bought this copy of OSX and I'd like to be able to use it...

Michael

Hello, you should read over the Xpostfacto "documentation" I have 2 questions...
is this 2 gig the "target" drive and how much space have you allocated for OSX?
If this is the only drive in the machine and is it partitioned? And one suggestion,
de-interleave your ram for the "install", then put the remaining sticks back after
you have succeeded. Sorry I don't know the "7300" but hope this helps. Phillip
