It may not have, I thought it was just certain Promise cards that worked.

The easiest way, actually, if you're reformatting the drive anyway, is to just do it inside the OSX installer process. That way you can format it as a single partition, and if OSX doesn't complain you're golden, but if it says you can't install it on any volumes, you can just pop back into Disk Utility and partition the drive...that's how I did it on my 7600.
