It's not really a USB limitation. It's just that motherboard USB is a handy way of distinguishing between "Old World" Macs and "New World" Macs. So, the "Panther requires onboard USB" rumor really equates to a "Panther requires a New World Mac" rumor.


As to whether I can solve the rumored problem, I will certainly try. In theory, it ought to be possible, but there are several issues to deal with, and the degree of difficulty depends on certain details that aren't totally apparent yet.
