I'm considering purchase of Canon PowerShot G3 camera. It will be my first digital camera. One writeup about Mac Requirements for it concerns me:
"Interface: USB: Cable connection via camera's USB port is limited to genuine Apple Computer brand models with a built-in USB interface"
I have a Power Mac 8500 with G4/450 and IOGear USB 2.0 PCI card, running OS X 10.2.6 via XPostFacto. Will I have any problem uploading images to my computer?

no.

If I decide to also buy a CD burner, what economical models would work well with my system? I only have a SCSI hard drive, not ATA.

Hmm...since you have a USB connection looking for an external USB model is a good choice, especially since support for SCSI burners is somewhat problematic. NOt as cheap as internal devices, but it'll work.

Another solution would be getting a ATA card for the thing and a CDRW for it that way...since the card can be had for ~$70, and IDE CDRW's can be gotten for next to nothing these days (I saw 52x drives on sale this last weekend for $10 after rebates...), you're still ahead of buying a SCSI burner, IMO.
