Having problems posting again. This is from this afternoon:
One day.. a G5, but until then:
So should these instructions: http://aex.org/mac/7000.html
This site looks good but uses files I'm not familiar with.
work with this card 64MB card: Sapphire RADEON 7000 64MB DDR PCI TVO/DVI (OEM) at: http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/ product.asp?pid=7942&sid=9U0BF2A0ENST8H88G3DX5TWTLE4T73P3This site looks good and uses the files most people I know have used.
or should I go with the information that is shared at http://www.mymacfamily.com/macintosh.html to do the 64MB version.
Ok I was wondering which card you were asking about . ATI Built 7000 PC cards are all 1 port vga only :-) I am sorry to say that most 7000 PC cards currently coming new from the factory have flash ROM chips too small to flash to Mac. Mac requires 128K and PC 64K . I can tell you the Sapphire cards at newegg no longer can be flashed to Mac sorry. It would require changing the FLASH ROM chip not something most of us can do. The only good news is the Power Color 7000 64 MB DDR PC PCI at newegg still has the needed Flash ROM chip as of 2 weeks ago. There is no way of telling by looking at the cards they have made changes that can not be seen at least at this point. The chip numbers are the same on cards with 128 and 64K chips as are the other markings. IT has been apoc a month since all currently shipping new from the factory Sapphire cards no longer work for flashing to Mac. There are companies that may have an older one but no way to tell. So Power Color 64 mb hopefully still work or buy a flashed one on Ebay or an older one.
Since they are so close in price, it seems like I should install the 64MB version, right? Or is one just as good as the other if you probably are not going to upgrade the CPU on a old beige beyond like the OWC Mercury G4/500 ZIF and run Jaguar?Yes either would be good if you got one with the right chip ;-) But I'd go for the Power Color 64 mb as the 32 is unknown if it works. Heavy Video users or gamers will see a difference. Also better picture if using 2 monitor Feature.
By the way, does anyone know if Final Cut Pro or Express would install in such a system, or does it demand native and faster G4 processors?Final Cut Express new 2.0 version needs G4 older version works with G3 .
Best of luck and it is perhaps last call for PC 7000 card flashing. Unless some new way of doing so arrives there will soon be no cards that can be flashed. You have been warned ;-) Will S
