hi,

a buddy has flashed successfully a Sapphire 64 MB ATI RADEON 7000 PCI Version

now he wants to do same for me and purchased a second card but the flashing dont works, it stops in the middle of the procedure, after googlin a bit I found out that to others it occured same

has someone flashed this beast successfully and can note me the serial number of the card. It seems they changed something during the production what avoids flashing newer cards so we want to track down the sn of cards what can be flashed for Mac.

Sorry but all Sapphire cards shipped from the Factory since Dec 2003 sometime have Flash ROM chips which are 65K in size. This is ok for PC but need to be 128K chip in order for Mac firmware to fit. I have looked into this and as far as I can tell there is no way to tell from looking at the card. All cards including the ones with 128K flash chips are marked with 64K chip numbers odd but true. So if you followed directions you have saved the PC firmware and can flash back to PC and return it or sell for PC card on ebay. The only 7000 card known to still be Mac flashable is the Power Color PC 7000 DDR PCI 64 mb card sold by newegg.com . This was about 2-3 weeks ago and could change at anytime. Small dealers and some shops may have older stock which can be flashed or buy one on ebay that is either old stock or already flashed to Mac. It is also possible to change the Flash ROM chip. But believe me most people do not have the ability to do this. You have to be almost an expert at soldering to do this.
So in short the days of flashing cheap PC ATI cards to Mac are perhaps nearly over for the general public. Wish I had better news. Will S
