Got the same thing on my B&W G3/400.

It's been fixed in 10.3 - but that's a bit flakey on that era hardware at this time 
(take it from one who knows!!). I had it working until I added a U2W SCSI card to my 
9600 and then it wouldn'rt boot anymore (crashed and the SCSI hung during boot).
