Proving ownership? Now that's a most interesting challenge.

I guess what I must be seeing is, as you say, "secondary spam" which has spoofed my email domain, and therefore come back to me unsolicited. I guess the inference is that some of the people I've emailed to in the past have been infected by MyDoom or something similar. No great surprise, then.

I'm sure this sounds paranoid to a lot of people, and while I'm sure this isn't a set-up there's been too many cases of well-meaning security people getting into real trouble because they didn't get everything in writing before helping someone out.
As for MyDoom: it *always* forges both the sender and recipient, there is no point in treating any "virus warnings" you get from other people's mail servers as anything but secondary spam.
