I had Jaguar on B&W G3 o'clocked to 450 and it was barely acceptable in a commercial print environment eg: Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc (you get the gist of apps I run). Under OS 9 machine quite snappy and able to run several apps simulataneously. GUI lag in Jaguar c/p to Panther in my opinion is similar to 10.1 to Jaguar difference.
I would say that similar improvements overall to responsiveness of OS are like the original jump to Jaguar.
Needless to say print engine is "way" better as well as several useful tweaks that have been introduced that make my life a little easier.
Why only a G3 in commercial print - well boss is tight and wont buy me a latter model mac even a DP G4 would be nice...alas I only have 320MB RAM in this thing.
Sorry for the rambles..but I guess all I am trying to say is that there is an overall feeling of speed increase to Panther over Jaguar.
Cheers
Simon
PS: Didn't realise my seemingly innocent question would take us down this/these paths of discussion
