Hi,

Just joined after not being able some months ago due to my ISP having many of the Maclaunch lists blacklisted by it's overzealous spamcop filter.

I am going to put a new XLR8 MACH carrier G4 450 into either my 8500 or 9500 (haven't decided yet). Then I want to install OSX 10.2.8 (actually 10.2.3 and then update it to 10.2.8).

Is XPF 2.5.5 my best bet or should I try one of the newer versions?

If I Install on the 9500 with256 MB RAM( I also have an older 64 MB stick I could throw in) it will be on a brand new 18 GB Seagate SCSI drive. Will this be easier/better than installing on the existing 80 GB ATA drive in my 8500?

The 8500 has been real stable with a G3 and OS 9.1 for some time so my inclination is to leave it alone.

Any pointers to make this install go smooth will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

I am sure many will support the get as much RAM into your OSX box as you can put your hands on.

As for HDs I don't think you will see a great difference between the two configs on that level of hardware.

My 9600 didn't "seem" any faster using SCSI or ATA 100 as boot drive under OS9 as for X, I could only use SCSI as X refused to install onto ATA drive.

As for preference, I don't think it really matters as MOBO speeds of 8500 and 9500 are the same, you just get extra PCI slots and RAM slots, HD locations (from memory - it's been a while since I've seen one)

Regards

Simon
