Normally they say that all the Radeon drivers are included in the System updates, but these appear to be slightly different. This is a an ATI Radeon Display System Preference control panel that allows some user control over OpenGL and other advanced features of Radeon video cards. I installed it on my unsupported Beige w/ Radeon 7000 PCI 64MB on the internal ATA 10.3.3 drive with no problems at all.
On my external firewire drive 10.3.3 drive it caused some problems. On initial reboot after installing the ATI update about half of the 50 or so icons that clutter my desktop were missing. I ran some minor utilities like Repair Permissions and whoa, nearly all the ATI permissions needed repair (and were also wrong on the other drive, so they're installed needing repair). I believe the ATI update somehow reset the Sleep preference, because I found my display dimming after short periods of inactivity. Sleep is a known cause of the Panther firewire bug data loss, and sure enough, upon reboot the System wouldn't boot. After hours of every imaginable fix, and seeing many corrupted or lost files, I was forced to do an archive reinstall. I later added the 4.2.5 update to the archive and reset the sleep to never, and all seems well so far. It appears that many of the "lost" resolution & refresh rates that were not selectable in the previous Displays control panel are now available again, so this might be good for those people with older monitors that need some special setting that wasn't previously available.
