Sound in on the Powersurge boards doesn't and won't work. You'll need

I had read posts in other forums that suggested RCA sound in worked for some people. Of course, those posts were not from first hand experience. That's why I asked here to see if anyone had it working for them.
I note your distinction between the Beige G3 as unsupported and a definitive "won't work" for Powersurge systems. Does that mean RCA sound in is technically impossible under OS X on an 8600?
BTW, I've tried an iMic which does what I need.
