Has anyone gotten X.3 to run on a 6500/6400/5500/5400 series desktop? I have
a 20th Ann. Mac which has nearly identical guts to a 6500 and I've got a nice
500 MHz G3 card and 128 Meg. of RAM all raren to go. It's a fantastic OS 9
machine, I've even gotten 9.2.2 to run but I'd love to put Panther on it.

I'm working on it, but haven't quite succeeded yet. The latest versions of XPostFacto 3 are capable of installing 10.1 on the TAM, but it is horrendously slow, because the G3 card isn't active -- and, of course, there is no L2 cache since the G3 card is sitting there doing nothing. Plus, of course, you can't put a lot of memory in the TAM, and the hard drive is relatively slow, etc., etc.

I've got some leads on activating the G3 card, so I hope I may be able to do that yet, but it is a little tricky and I haven't succeeded yet.

If I get that working, there will also be other issues to deal with, like sound volume adjustments, the ethernet card, brightness and contrast adjustments, etc.
