Are you using ASP under X or 9? ASP under X seems to just report what the OS claims to have detected at boot. ASP under 9 has direct access to the hardware and can generally do a better job of diagnosis, though it's often a bit out of date when it comes to reporting hardware. You might try InforMac under X, though.
