"One of the first three pages of logical memory is not mapped 1 - 1."
oops. Hate it when memory forgets. :)
I've re-seated the physical memory, and reset the PRAM & NVRAM, but the message persists.
Good first step.
I ran TechTool Pro 3.01. The full memory RAM test in default mode was passed. The optional tests with names like Arpeggio, Web, etc. were VERY slow, and the one called Minor March seemed to always freeze the system.
hum.
I can think of one type of prefs corruption that *might* cause this error. Long shot, but perhaps worth a try... Trash "Memory Preferences". Reboot. Open Memory control panel, click Use Defaults. Turn off virtual memory. Reboot. See if the error re-occurs or changes.
The description of the memory in TTP3 seemed strange. With eight 128 MB DIMMs I thought they'd all read the same. For some reason only the even pairs in slots A2/B2 & A4/B4 were called 128M. Slots A1/B1 were called 640M, and even stranger, slots A3/B3 were called -402653184.
I'm guessing there's a problem with the RAM in these odd numbered slots? Any ideas?
If there is then your memory controller has a problem.
If the error persists after doing the steps above... Start pulling DIMMs. Could be (hopefully) the subcontroller chip on one stick has died.
