greetings all. long time listener, first time caller...

can someone please advised or point me to any FAQ etc. on what _constitutes_ a 'supported'-"unsupported" machine... not just a list of machines but the obstacles that prevent unsupported^2 machines from making progress.

i believe my 603ev, OF 1.x(?), PCI, is currently out of the race but i would like to know why that is??
i'm not a coder, just a beige geek, but i do grasp things like architectural aspects that are not able to be abstracted with the default binary install. surely all the rest is down to hardware resources and config (naive oversimplification i'm sure, please enlighten).

my aspirations are not grand, i'm minimum guy, and i am not deterred by contortion.
essentially i would like to create a headless darwin 6 (server) for experience, production, or next to no reason other that the thrill of the chase;
-no video
-no gui / mouse
-no optical drive
-1x 6GB ATA (ex. b/w G3)
-1x (or 2x?) 100Mb NIC
-ideally apache, DAV (that's right, amongst other things, i want to share our iCals on the only box that is guaranteed to stay in the studio).

i can plug my FW target disk PB into and boot a wealth of supported hosts no problem. so what is stopping me building darwin on a 'similar' box that has been cleared for XPF and transferring the ATA to my destination machine?
no OF 3.x?

apparently my beige will run netBSD, (why not then? because i would prefer the server i'm shelling into to be the same core OS as the bell-n-whistle clients it assists).

i've noted the netinfo workaround at-
http://forum.macsales.com/viewtopic.php?t=644

i guess what i'm asking is, should i take the time to adhere to numerous previously noted install reservations and try to shoe-horn a darwin onto my ATA or am i missing some insurmountable point that just makes me another animated and anxious disciple of (and big ups to) ryan?

ok, it's a tanzania, starmax3K (yes, BeOS was cool!), what is that insurmountable point...?

cheer,
damian.
