Dear List: I recently installed Jaguar on my Power Mac 7600, which has a Sonnet G3 500, 256MB RAM, 1 GB SCSI drive for OS 9.1, a Maxtor 160GB drive (8GB of which is reserved for OS X), an ATI Radeon 7000, a Macally USB/Firewire card, and an ACARD6280M ATA controller card for the 160GB drive.
The Jaguar installation went without incident, but when I have tried to upgrade to Panther I have been encountering problems. After the computer reboots using XPostFacto with the Panther disc installed, it stalls after a few moments and states, "panic...we are hanging here". Finally I got past this issue by readjusting the Throttle option in the Enable L2/L3 cache section. Values lower than 5 produced that same panic message. When I set it to at least 5, the computer proceeded with the installation to the point where the video came up on screen. Unfortunately, when the video came on, the screen output was all garbled, but I knew it was at the start screen for installing Panther. Has anyone else encountered this issue when trying to install Panther? And if so, what work-arounds did you come up with? I forgot to mention that I am using the 7600's built-in video with an old Performa 14" monitor to perform the upgrade.
