I recently acquired a Beige G3 (233 MHz, 160 MB RAM, 4 GB IDE hard drive) and have managed to get Panther running on it. It's not as slow as I expected it to be, and it's really stable, except for one recurring problem I keep getting.
Sometimes (for no reason at all it seems...) the monitor will go blank and the power light will change from green to amber indicating loss of signal. Sometimes the computer seems unresponsive (no sounds or even caps lock light action, also not available on the network) and other times I can use the power key on the keyboard to get it to shut down like it would normally. When I reboot the system it comes up just like it should. I've had it run anywhere from about 10 minutes to about 5 hours between 'blackouts.' Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a solution that doesn't require me purchasing another video card? (I'm using the onboard video... I do have a small handful of old PC PCI video cards, maybe one of those would work?)
