thanks for your responses, and wish me luck.
Good luck.
Have you looked for other Gaussian users? Is there, perhaps a mailing
list? We have some folks doing that sort of thing here I can ask
them, though they're generally less than unix-literate, too.
However, from what I've gleaned, there's a lot of info there, but
basically you just need to set one environment variable for the program.
What version of OS X are you using?
If you're using 10.2, your default shell is tcsh.
Start terminal
type:
pico .cshrc
and hit return.
This is a pretty user friendly unix text editor.
type at the end of the file:
setenv GV_DIR /Applications/gv
Then type control-X (not command, but control)
You'll be asked if you want to save the changes. type Y and you're set.
If you're running 10.3 or 10.4 your default environment is bash, in
which case the file you need to edit is .profile and the line to add is:
export GV_DIR=/Applications/gv
Then, they don't mention this, but you have to start the program from
that terminal window, if that's to have any meaning...
Do they talk about X-windows in the documentation? That brings up
another kettle of fish...
