ok, to reply to some of your questions, yes i have the latest version of
Gaussian '03M for the OSX operating system. likewise for GaussView.
they state that 10.2 is the minimum requirement, and i have a spiffy
new G5/1.8 x 2 that came with 10.3.7 installed. and yes, i have a
colleague at another university who uses Gaussian, and i have taken my
old wallstreet 233 (running 10.2) over to him, and he wrote the shell
scripts for that computer for me, but he didn't have the time to explain
to me how to do it myself. when i got the new G5, i was on my own to
get it installed, and i still haven't managed to figure it out. the
wallstreet runs the apps fine, but is too slow to be practical. i
currently have the wallstreet connected to the G5 with an
ethernet/appletalk connection, and i am able to run the application on
the G5 that way, but i would like to get it installed properly on the G5
so i can free the notebook from its bondage.
i can understand why some of you may assume that i am a total moron, and
ask questions like "do you have the mac osx version?" you may rest
assured that i am only a part-time moron. when i am teaching college
chemistry courses, SOME of my students even think i am
quasi-intelligent. it may come as more of a surprise, but i even
learned assembly language programming back in the sixties, on an IBM
360/70 mainframe (can you spell t-e-d-i-o-u-s). that is partly why i am
so resistant to learning UNIX. to be fair, i should have included as
much info as possible in my original post, and i failed to do so.
don't get me wrong. i DO appreciate the advice and help i have received
from those list-members kind enough to take the time to post replies. i
am going to try to follow some of the suggestions, and i will post to
the list to report my failure, or success.
again, sincere thanks to all, and wish me luck.
john
