Maybe. More bizarre is that the current tsunami system works fine in OS
9.1, and can play thru the soundsticks both from the old Apple CD
Player app and from iTunes for OS 9 (v1 or v2); it's only OS X
(currently 10.3.9) where iTunes keeps crashing the sound out to the
soundsticks. Looks like some weird interaction between unsupported OS
X, USB and iTunes at the mo.
Time to give up and buy an old sawtooth.

This is probably the same problem from years ago when these machines
wouldn't play mp3s from an ATA disk attached to a PCI ATA card without
stuttering. I believe the 7500 and 7300 and maybe others (8500s?) had
this
problem though a number of 7600 owners (including myself) had no
problems
with it. It has to do with the PCI timings or something like that.
Sorry,
memory's a bit foggy from back then.

Folks,
In theory, my Harman-Hardon soundsticks should work on USB
connections.
In practice, they seem fine when directly connected to the USB ports
on
various supported machines (cube, iBook 700, pismo, lombard). But when
I connect them to third-party USB cards (Belkin, Sonnet) in TNT and
tsunami chassis, I get stuttering or freezing of the sound. So
although
unsupported OS X recognises the devices, it seems unable to drive them
via these interfaces.
I've tried various combinations of component (cpu. OS version, card
slot order, etc) but nothing seems to work properly. I find this
failure puzzling (but it might be just inadequacy of bus/mem/interface
speed).
So I wondered if anyone had got SoundSticks working on an unsupported
machine?
tnx
