(snipping my text - sorry)

You've made a great case for X-cart. I'll read up on this one more. Do they store settings using override files that ought to be in the database (where clients can modify the settings with the admin GUI instead of always reverting to a webmaster for these changes?

The client can use a "webmaster mode" to edit language, etc. All editable text displays green in webmaster mode, and if they click on a green word or phrase, a box pops up for them to edit it with. Other store settings are editable through the admin interface. I believe both the language and settings are stored in the db. Layout -- most of it anyway -- is stored in the smarty templates.

X-cart.com has a limited live demo online, and they also have 30 day fully functional trials. Give em a shot and let us know what you think :-)
