For this situation I want to suggest something on the client end instead
of the server end. It's not perfect but will make it so you can have
the same code on both servers. You could add an entry to the host file
on the machines you use to test the development enviroment, or you could
probably work something out with foxyproxy(ie set up a proxy server that
has a modified hosts file) so it's easy to change back and forth.
