While I agree that their platforms are not cutting edge, they are also very stable and completely maintained for you. If you are looking to manage your own servers, OS, patches, security, etc. then a Verio server is not for you. With a Verio server you can get full root access and install whatever you want, but you will not have to manage the OS, security patches and updates because those are taken care of. Perhaps Linode offers that as well?
