Agreed, small chunks.  perhaps 500 at a time.

Also it's best to relay them through a real/trusted/known-good
mailserver.  It's also important that the email not appear spammy, or
that the recipients are expecting email like that.  Even if only a few
recipients click "Report Spam" could have dire consequences.
